The exhibition features over 50 variations on the idea of a brooch, with versions in both precious and non-precious materials. Traditionally set stones contrast with re-purposed vintage tins and toys, precision geometry meets abstract forms. Gold, silver and gemstones sit alongside found objects in unexpected interpretations that demonstrate technical accomplishment, innovation and creativity.
A collaborative project between Art Jewellery Network (Ireland) and convoi exceptionnel (Finland).
At AJN we have been working with the wonderful convoi exceptionnel in Finland on an exchange project entitled, ‘Home’.
What makes you feel at home? Is home for you a place, a state of mind, a memory? How does your nationality fit into your concept of home? Every answer is different: the exhibition presents 18 point of views by the means of jewellery art.
This exhibition showcases the work of 9 Irish Art Jewellers alongside 9 Finnish Art Jewellers. Each jeweller has made a piece based on the theme of ‘Home’, the work will be exhibited in Taidebunkkeri, Finland 4th to 30th August and in Belfast, Ireland 1st to 31st of October 2015.
R Space is a visual arts and crafts space, presenting and commissioning a programme of exhibitions and arts activity based in The Linen Rooms in the heart of the City of Lisburn, Northern Ireland. R Space exhibits the work of artists and makers who explore Materials, Messages and Methods of production of work that has meaning in its quality. It is important that their work considers What they use, Why they use it and How they present its outcome.
The Jewellery Exchange 2014 is an event curated by contemporary jeweller, Olga Raben. Through the wonders of Facebook she organised a worldwide exchange between 370 contemporary jewellers. All applicants were paired up with another maker randomly. With some goodwill and a love for jewellery we all made a piece for our partner.

I was paired up with the very talented Ciara Bowles, her work is playful colourful, bold and daring. Inspired by the strong style in her work I wanted to create something playful and fun with a little bit of character and from this ‘Björn’ was created.
Below is an image of the stunning earrings I received from Ciara, see her full range here.
